Aviation and history aficionados in Atlanta will get the chance to experience restored World War II-era aircrafts during the upcoming “Special Warbird Rides Days” event.
Taking place May 24-25 at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK), the event marks the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day and the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Navy and Marines.
During the event, which runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors can check out five vintage military planes up close and personal, including a P-51 Mustang, SBD Dauntless dive bomber and more.
In addition to viewing the warbirds, guests also have the opportunity to go for a ride in the aircrafts, with prices ranging from $295 to $3,995.00 for flights.
Hosting Special Warbird Rides Days is Commemorative Air Force (CAF) Airbase Georgia, a Peachtree City-based nonprofit that specializes in maintaining and operating military planes that are synonymous with history.
“This is an amazing opportunity for aviation enthusiasts, history buffs and family members of World War II veterans to experience a unique array of historic aircraft in Atlanta,” said Joel Perkins, leader of CAF Airbase Georgia.
“DeKalb Peachtree Airport occupies the original site of Naval Air Station Atlanta, which trained Navy and Marine pilots during World War II. This event exemplifies the mission of the CAF, which is to educate, inspire and honor. We are proud to honor the memory of the Greatest Generation by offering rides in our historic aircraft.”
Flight reservations can be made online at CAF Airbase Georgia’s website.
