Registration for Atlanta’s July 4th tradition, the Atlant Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race, closes to the public on Wednesday, April 30.
The 56th Peachtree Road Race will bring 55,000 runners and walkers to the streets of Atlanta to race in the world’s largest 10K on Friday, July 4, but the fun starts days before.
The festivities kick off with a Health and Fitness Expo at Lenox Square on July 2 and 3, culminating in fireworks the night of July 3, with race participants getting a front row seat. The race will conclude with a new post-race celebration at Piedmont Park, which will include SweetWater Brewing beer gardens, music and more.
“The Peachtree is very much a local tradition; 90 percent of the people who participate are from the state of Georgia,” Rich Kenah, the CEO of Atlanta Track Club and race director, told Rough Draft. “It’s how the community comes together. It’s not really the world’s largest 10K, it’s really the world’s largest running and walking party.”
While Atlanta Track Club members receive guaranteed entry at $55, non-members must enter via the newly reinstated lottery system. The lottery is $65 and all entrants have an equal chance of selection. Results will be announced the week of May 5.
Non-members interested in bypassing the lottery system can do so by registering for Peachtree with a Purpose: Kilometer Kids Charity Waves and donating to support the Atlanta Track Club’s free youth running program.
Registration is also open to fill 4,000 volunteer spots. Volunteer opportunities include working at the expo, assisting in race number pick-up, raising the American flag, working hydration stations, distributing the coveted Peachtree t-shirts at the finish line, and more. Volunteers will receive a Home Depot apron, a Chick-Fil-A meal voucher, a commemorative Adidas volunteer t-shirt, complimentary snacks and water, access to merch discounts, and the opportunity to compete in the race’s sign contest. Volunteer registration is open until July 1.
