1. Nomadic wine bar Long Snake taking a break
🐍 Named for the PJ Harvey song “Long Snake Moan,” Long Snake is not your typical Atlanta restaurant.
The nomadic wine bar, created by Joshua Fryer, has called many places in the city home since its founding in 2023. Due to its transitory status, Long Snake is not quite a pop-up and not quite a traditional restaurant. Without a permanent location, ordering ingredients and supplies for Long Snake can be rough. Each time Fryer orders from his regular vendors, he must tell them where Long Snake will be that week, and how and when to access the host restaurant.
Faced with these additional challenges amid working in an already difficult industry rife with rising costs, thin profit margins, and long hours on your feet, Fryer said he’s ready to take a break. It’s also time to rethink how he operates Long Snake in the future.

2. Above the Waterline: Preparing Atlanta for a hotter, wetter future
🔥 As ferocious wildfires swept through Los Angeles in January, the Trump Administration ignited its own deadly firestorm with an assault on climate change policy: the laws, plans, and funds aimed at reducing the substantial risks of a warming planet.
Despite the steady drumbeat of more frequent and more intense disasters, Trump froze federal grants for research and programs that reduce climate risks. In Georgia, $1 billion in much-needed projects to modernize the power grid are currently on hold, as are funds to help the City of Atlanta implement its climate plans.
While it will be difficult — if not impossible — to achieve any meaningful climate action at the federal level in the next few years, there are places where we can focus our energy: cities.

3. Director Joe Stephenson talks about the making of ‘Midas Man’
🎸 Everyone knows who The Beatles are. But a new biopic playing at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival takes a closer look at the man behind the phenomenon.
“Midas Man” follows music manager Brian Epstein from the moment he first discovered The Beatles in 1961 to his untimely death at the age of 32 just six years later. Despite his lack of music management experience, Epstein signed The Beatles and is responsible for creating the image of the band that first made them superstars.
🍿 Sammie Purcell recently spoke with director Joe Stephenson about the making of the film. The AJFF opens tonight, and you can get tickets and details here.
📖 Join award-winning journalist Dave Schechter as he discusses his new book, “A Life of the Party,” about his great-aunt’s struggles on behalf of working men and women as a Communist in the 1920s-50s. March 9, 1-4 p.m., Waller’s Coffee Shop in Decatur. SPONSOR MESSAGE
