Why not, Wednesday?
Apr. 10 — It’s Cathy from Rough Draft with my weekly newsletter on Dunwoody. It’s been an action-packed week here, with sporting victories, seasonal openings, fundraisers, and paving projects all highlighted in this week’s edition.
Another Dunwoody way-finding sign has been installed, and this newsletter contains its exact location to make it easy for the haters to stop by while collecting ammo for social media. What can I say? I’m a giver.
Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Cathy

‘Fore’ the win X2
The Dunwoody High School Boys’ and Girls’ Varsity Golf Team won the DeKalb County High School Golf Team Championship on April 3 – a repeat for the girls, and a return to the top for the boys.
In addition, four Dunwoody student-athletes placed in the top of the overall girls’ and boys’ individual champions and runners-up awards at the competition, held at the Stone Mountain Golf Club.
The win gave the Dunwoody girls’ team its eighth county title to move into first place for the most titles, passing Lakeside High School.

This one’s for you, Stacey Harris
💲 My out-and-about friend, “Do the Math” Nancy J., informed me that the latest Dunwoody way-finding sign has been installed. This one is located on Mount Vernon Road after you drive past the Dick’s Sporting Goods toward Ashford Dunwoody Road.
Dunwoody City Council Member Stacey Harris, who has been closely tracking this project, will be thrilled, while others will be equally excited to launch fresh attacks about this latest installation, its orientation, the cost to the taxpayers, and its contribution to the plunging NASDAQ Composite.
⬆️ Here are more details about Dunwoody’s sign program from the city’s website.

Liver Life Walk April 12
🚶♂️➡️On Saturday, April 12, more than 130 people will gather in Dunwoody’s Brook Run Park to support the fourth Liver Life Walk Atlanta with the American Liver Foundation and survivor Beth Lehman at the helm.
Lehman, who was recognized last year as an one of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s Everyday Heroes, is a Sandy Springs resident who received a liver transplant in 2021 when hers failed after decades of alcohol abuse.
Lehman was on the transplant list and had been sober for months in preparation for the operation when cancerous tumors were found in her liver. That led to an extended treatment period that weakened her already frail system. Add in other health-threatening conditions like a fractured tailbone, bleeding esophageal veins and an umbilical hernia, and the hope for a lifesaving liver transplant seemed like a distant dream.
🏞️ Read Logan’s story about Lehman’s recovery and her efforts to help an often-silent community of sufferers.
🌼 Springtime in Atlanta means it’s time for the 89th Annual Atlanta Dogwood Festival. Held in Piedmont Park on April 11-13, this three-day outdoor event has fine art, live music and entertainment, children’s activities and more — and it’s free to attend! SPONSOR MESSAGE

About 63,000 reasons that it’s not o-Kay
💎 Dunwoody Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying three suspects who allegedly stole more than $63,000 in jewelry over a three-day period from a Perimeter Center-area jewelry store.
According to the police, two men and one woman in late 2024 used fraudulent credit cards, which were linked to their phone’s digital wallets, to make purchases from the Perimeter Mall Kay Jewelers.
According to an incident report obtained on April 7 by Rough Draft, the stolen items include “nine gold chains, two diamond earrings, and one diamond bracelet.”
🚓 Not sure why the police waited so long to seek the public’s assistance, but anyhoo, here’s the story.

Crack-sealing work has nothing to do with teeth
🚚 The City of Dunwoody’s annual paving project kicked off April 8, encompassing 10 miles, with 23 streets affected.
The city has budgeted $2.75 million of Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funds for the work. The Georgia Department of Transportation will also provide $503,414 through the Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant (LMIG).
The city also announced that crack-sealing work is planned for parts of Dunwoody Park, Hammond Drive and Perimeter Center Parkway.
There are so many joke ideas contained in the phrase “crack-sealing work,” but I’m going to, for one of the first times ever, let that opportunity pass without mentioning dentists or plumbers.
🚧 But don’t let that stop you. Here’s the story.

Time to get fed and entertained
🌯 The Dunwoody Homeowners Association’s Food Truck Thursday is coming back to Brook Run Park on April 17 starting at 5 p.m. Remember, the food truck (pictured above) schedule has shifted from weekly to once a month, so don’t let this opportunity pass you by.
🍋🟩 Here’s a new event coming from the folks at Ashford Lane – live music on the lawn on the third Sunday of the month from 2-4 p.m., starting April 20. You can get food and drinks from any of the surrounding restaurants and bring it out on the lawn to enjoy.
Pro tip: I play corn hole at Ashford Lane on Wednesdays, and my drink of choice is a Superica frozen margarita with a shot of Grand Marnier on the side. The marg doesn’t make me play better, but it makes me believe I’m playing better. And that’s what matters these days, – right, Millennials?
🍞 Nell’s Produce Market is open for the season in the Williamsburg at Dunwoody Shopping Center, which everyone knows as the center where E. 48th Street Market and the Chick-fil-A are located. I stopped by there yesterday and learned that homemade sourdough bread will be sold at Nell’s on Fridays and Saturdays. The stand is open from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
