American-Pakistani business tycoon Tanweer Ahmed has generously donated $9 million to Islamabad’s National University of Science & Technology (NUST) to facilitate underprivileged students in accessing quality education through scholarships.
NUST has officially acknowledged Tanweer Ahmed’s collaboration with the university, establishing an Endowment Fund dedicated to supporting disadvantaged students. This initiative is set to benefit nearly 200 students annually, making it one of the largest donations by an overseas Pakistani to any university in Pakistan.
In an interview, Tanweer Ahmed revealed plans to extend the scholarship scheme to other universities, emphasizing its permanence at NUST. A formal ceremony is scheduled at NUST Islamabad next month, with top Pakistani leaders attending to launch the scholarship program.
Houston-based businessman Tanweer Ahmed outlined that the scholarship distribution, managed annually through the Higher Education Commission (HEC), will prioritize merit-based selection.
The focus is on assisting students who cannot afford quality education, particularly in advanced sectors like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Information Technology (IT).

Over the years, he has built a successful career, contributing over $50 million in aid during the 2022 floods in Pakistan, showcasing his commitment to philanthropy. Inspired by his modest background and understanding of Pakistan’s realities, Tanweer Ahmed aims to empower Pakistani youth.
He emphasizes the need for successful overseas Pakistanis to contribute philanthropically, especially in the education sector. Tanweer Ahmed asserts that overseas Pakistanis should give back to their homeland, emphasizing the significance of empowering youth through modern education and knowledge.
He sees his contribution as playing a crucial role in helping Pakistani youth achieve their life goals.
