Temporary overnight closures of GA 400 to construct express lanes in both directions between Sandy Springs and southern Forsyth County start on Sunday.
Georgia Department of Transportation contractors are scheduled to work from Sunday, April 13, through Friday, April 18. The week of work on the approximately 16-mile section of highway starts at the MARTA North Springs Station to approximately one mile north of McFarland Parkway in Forsyth County. The work will impact traffic from mile marker 8 to mile marker 27.
Weather permitting, contractors will temporarily close a single inside left lane or outside right lane and the corresponding shoulder closure from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. on the following schedule:
Southbound
- From Old Milton Parkway to Holcomb Bridge Road
- From Holcomb Bridge Road to Abernathy Road
- From State Route 141 to Old Milton Parkway
Northbound
- From Abernathy Road to Holcomb Bridge Road
- From Holcomb Bridge Road to Old Milton Parkway
- From Old Milton Parkway to State Route 141
GDOT completed the Roberts Drive, Pitts Road, and Kimball Bridge Road GA 400 bridge replacement projects that were needed to make room for the express lanes.
The new express lanes will have variable-priced tolls that offer a choice for drivers to bypass congestion, according to the Express Lanes website.
SR400 Peach Partners, a consortium of several road-building and engineering companies, won the bid for the Georgia 400 project at $4.6 billion in August 2024. At that time, the State Transportation Board was told the GA 400 project would add two toll lanes in each direction along the north-south highway from the North Springs MARTA station north to McGinnis Ferry Road and one toll lane in each direction from there north to McFarland Parkway.
Motorists should expect delays, exercise caution, and reduce their speed while traveling through work zones. Check the Express Lanes website for the latest updates.
