Tax extension Tuesday
Apr. 16 — If you didn’t know, Georgia tax filers have an automatic extension until May 1 due to Hurricane Helene, so don’t rush to the post office or your computer.

Decatur Square’s big makeover
🎭 The Decatur Downtown Development Authority (DDA) announced the start of an $8.5 million project to reshape Decatur Square.
First hatched in early 2022, the plan includes expanding both the size of the Square and its green space, replacing the large bandstand by the Swanton Way MARTA entrance with a performing arts stage (pictured), expanding open spaces, creating a new children’s play area, and adding permanent public restrooms.
The public is invited to the celebration launching the project – which is being called “The Square ShakeUp” – at a groundbreaking ceremony on Thurs., April 17.

Honoring trailblazing women
🏆 The City of Atlanta has released its inaugural Moving H.E.R. Forward List, recognizing 25 trailblazing women whose contributions have helped shape the city.
This list, standing for Historically Equitable Recognition (H.E.R.), ensures that the legacies of Atlanta’s influential women are acknowledged and celebrated.
Some of the names on the list include First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Civil Rights activist Coretta Scott King, and Atlanta journalist and author Valerie Boyd (pictured).
