Our Rough Draft team is compiling a list of closures, delays and cancellations that affect our coverage area, as well as a list of restaurant-related opening delays and closures due to weather conditions.
Schools
DeKalb County Schools has declared an asynchronous learning day for students Jan. 10 and a remote work day for teachers.
Fulton County Schools and all administrative offices will be closed Friday, Jan. 10. Students will have a remote learning day. Teachers will communicate with their students regarding instructional expectations.
All extracurricular activities have been canceled, including after-school and evening meetings, extended day programs/after-school care, tutorials, clubs, athletic practices and games as well as other events specified by individual schools. Friday field trips, overnight field trips occurring Thursday night/Friday morning and extracurricular activities planned for Saturday and Sunday also are canceled. Any exceptions will be communicated directly by the school principal.
Atlanta Public Schools will be closed on Friday, Jan. 10, due to inclement weather. Schools will communicate continued learning plans to families for Friday, January 10, 2025. Extracurricular activities scheduled for Thursday, January 9, 2025 will continue as scheduled. All extracurricular activities scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been canceled. District offices will operate remotely.
Decatur City Schools and buildings, including ECLC and the Frasier Center, will be closed tomorrow, Jan. 10. All athletic and after-school activities for Friday and Saturday are canceled.
Out of an abundance of caution in case of a continued closure on or beyond Monday, Jan. 13, students in grades K-5 and Adapted Curriculum classes will be sent home with work packets and a CSD Chromebook for an independent learning day. Grades 6-12 will continue to take Chromebooks and chargers home to access Google Classroom for assigned work.
Oglethorpe University is moving to a hybrid work and instruction format. Classes will not be cancelled on Jan. 10 but will move to remote instruction (online meeting or asynchronous assignments). Faculty will notify their students regarding their class plan for the day.
Essential employees should plan to report as usual but travel carefully given conditions. Contact your supervisor if reaching campus will be a safety hazard.
All other employees should plan to work remotely Friday. Students can access campus services such as Student Success, Registrar, and Finance through email and Teams. All those on campus should be mindful of their safety with icing on sidewalks and roads. Throughout the weekend Facilities will be salting and keeping sidewalks clear to residence halls, the Turner Lynch Campus Center, Lowry Hall and academic buildings.
Offices at Mercer University’s Atlanta Campus and Douglas County and Henry County Regional Academic Centers will be closed on Friday and classes are cancelled. Staff who are able to work remotely will do so.
Mercer University’s Macon, Savannah and Columbus campuses will maintain normal operating hours and class schedules on Friday.
Clark Atlanta University and the Lovett School have announced they will move to remote learning on Friday, while Gwinnett Technical College will be closed Friday and Saturday.
The Galloway School will be closed Friday and Felicia McCrary’s Celebration of Light and Life has also been postponed. Stay tuned to email and social media for additional information.
Georgia State University will have reduced campus operations on Friday, Jan. 10. Essential personnel should report as scheduled unless otherwise notified by their supervisors.
Spelman College will operate remotely on Jan. 10.
Emory University campuses, including Oxford College, will be closed and the university will move to remote operations on Friday.
Students with in-person classes scheduled for Friday should contact their professors to learn if those classes will be moved online. University employees should plan on working remotely if they are able. Essential personnel should contact their supervisors for guidance.
Emory Healthcare employees should refer to communications from EHC for information.

Government offices
All DeKalb County tax commissioner’s office locations will be closed Friday, Jan. 10 and will re-open Monday, Jan. 13.
Customers may still contact the call center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. and are encouraged to consider online services.
Property tax information is available online at publicaccess.dekalbtax.org. Motor vehicle e-services are available at eservices.drives.ga.gov. To find a tag kiosk, visit dekalbtax.org/kiosks.
DeKalb and Fulton County libraries will be closed Friday.
Fulton County offices will be closed Jan. 10, which includes government centers, senior centers, behavioral health and developmental disability facilities, and tax offices. Visit the website for updates.
Brookhaven City Hall and the city’s recreation centers will be closed Friday, Jan. 10 and Saturday, Jan. 11. City operations and administrative functions will continue, with employees working remotely where possible. More information can be found here.
The City of Tucker announced this morning that its offices will be closed.
Events/Attractions
The High Museum will closed on Friday, Jan. 10. The museum said those who have already purchased tickets should hold on to them as they will be honored for your next daytime visit.
The Atlanta Botanical Garden on Friday, Jan. 10 will be closed during the day and during Garden Lights. On Saturday, Jan. 11, the garden is closed during the day, but open during Garden Lights. Check the garden’s social media accounts and website for updates.
Fox Theatre cancelled the 8 p.m. performance of “& Juliet” scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10. Original ticket purchases will be issued refunds. Email about Jan. 10 cancelled performance sent to contact on file.
Atlanta Symphony Orchestra will postpone its performance of “The Four Seasons,” which had been scheduled for Friday, Jan. 10.
The new concert date is Tuesday, March 11, at 8 p.m. Ticket holders who can attend this new date do not need to take any action, as their ticket will be updated automatically.
Those who cannot attend the concert on March 11 should review their options online at aso.org/weather-update. They may also reach the Guest Services Team by phone at (404) 733-4800 or email asosubscriptions@atlantasymphony.org.
At this time, Sunday’s concert will be performed at its scheduled time, though staff will continue to monitor weather reports to evaluate the impact of the storm.
The Georgia Aquarium will be closed on Friday, Jan. 10 with plans to reopen late on Saturday, Jan. 11 from 12-9 p.m. The safety of staff and guests is the top priority, aquarium officials stated. Ride-out teams will continue to care for the animals, so they will receive uninterrupted care.
Guests with admission tickets for Friday, Jan. 10 or Saturday, Jan. 11 are welcome to visit on any other day through the end of 2025, and their tickets will still be valid. No need to contact Georgia Aquarium to reschedule—just present your admission ticket at the main entrance on your chosen day.
Both the Plaza and Tara theaters will close on Friday, Jan. 10. Check Instagram for Saturday updates.
Fernbank Museum will be closed on Friday, Jan. 10. Fernbank After Dark has been rescheduled to Friday, Jan. 17.
Zoo Atlanta will be closed Friday, Jan. 10, including the evening light show Iluminights.
The World of Coca-Cola will be closed Friday, Jan. 10 but hopes to reopen Saturday at 10 a.m.
All activities at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta are cancelled for Friday. A decision about Saturday activities will be made later today.
