The Punjab government has announced that all public and private schools, colleges, and universities will be closed on November 18 in 10 districts of the province due to the high level of smog. Read this Punjab Unveils Scholarship Program for Talented Students

The government has also said that shops, gyms, and cinemas will be shut until 3PM on Saturday in these districts. The districts are:

  • Lahore
  • Gujranwala
  • Nankana Sahib
  • Sheikhupura
  • Kasur
  • Gujrat
  • Sialkot
  • Narowal
  • Hafizabad
  • Mandi Bahuddin

The government has also asked people to limit their movement in these districts, which have the worst air quality index (AQI). The Lahore High Court (LHC) had earlier told all the offices to work from home twice a week.

The Minister of Planning and Development, Forrest Wildlife and Fisheries & Environmental Protection, Bilal Afzal, had said that transport was the main cause of smog. He had said that transport was responsible for 45% of the smog.
