Out on Film, Atlanta’s LGBTQ+ film festival, has announced the recipients of its annual Filmmaker Fund.
This is the second year that Out on Film has held the fund, according to a press release. The fund was started as a way to champion queer artists, and this year’s group consists of seven filmmakers.
Each filmmaker has received up to $2,500. This year’s grants totaled over $15,000, made possibly by a 2024 Kickstarter campaign.
“As one of the most honored LGBTQ film festivals around today, we are proud to help this fresh, new group of seven filmmakers finish their films and documentaries, and bring even more exciting, moving and diverse queer stories to the community – particularly in these volatile times for us, nonprofits and the arts nationwide,” said Out On Film Festival Director Jim Farmer in the release.
The grant recipients are Hannah Aslesen for her short film “Scissors,” Sidney Fussell for his documentary short film “Hallelujah Anyway,” Kerri Garrett for their short film “A Westside Love Story,” Carly Kane for her short film “Dead End,” Alyssa Lerner for their short film “First Death,” Matt Nadel for his documentary short film “Odd Man In,” and Tony Zosherafatain for his documentary short film “Lens on Self: The Loren Cameron Story.”
“With the Filmmaker Fund, Out On Film displays its firm commitment to not only showcasing but enhancing the work of emerging queer filmmakers, specifically those Southern voices,” said Out On Film Executive Director Justice Obiaya in the release.
