
Guess what, Dunwoody? Tang’s Oriental Asian Bar and Sports Pub opened at Politan Row at Ashford Lane last night. The full-service restaurant, backed by Chef Stanley Wong and Clayton Parker, named for a Bangkok restaurant from the 1930s, serves a variety of Asian and South Asian dishes, including pork dumplings, yakitori, Thai lemongrass wings, a kimchi burger, Korean fried cauliflower, and samosas. Look for cocktails, Japanese beers on draft, and sake from the bar.
In more Atlanta restaurant renovation news, the owners of Nakato announced they will temporarily close the half-century-old Japanese restaurant in June to give it a much-needed makeover. When it reopens, expect new hibachi and lounge areas and a covered overhang above the entrance to the restaurant. Nakato should reopen by the end of September but will continue to accept to-go, delivery, and catering orders throughout the summer.
Love Waffle House, The Varsity, and barbecue from Owens & Hull? The critically acclaimed Mableton barbecue joint overlooking the Chattahoochee River will celebrate all things Atlanta with two food specials in March and April. From March 20-23, order smoked sausage from Owens & Hull stuffed with American cheese and Waffle House smothered hash browns. From March 27-30 and April 3-6, order chili cheese smoked sausage made with cheddar cheese, minced onions, and The Varsity’s chili.
Six years after the initial 2019 announcement, conspiracy theory-themed Redacted Basement Bar will FINALLY open in Summerhill, according to this Instagram post, which doesn’t indicate a specific date or even a broad date range for the opening. The post just reads, “Coming Very Soon!” Another conspiracy theory? Or just on brand?
Earlier this week, you may have read on Rough Draft that Atlanta native and catering powerhouse Dennis Retzleff died after a battle with cancer. He was 63. It appears Retzleff’s culinary legacy will live on at Dennis Dean Catering under the ownership of General Manager Annie Duncan and Director of Sales Adam Shoemaker. “The transition to new ownership has been carefully planned for some time, and recent developments have accelerated the process to ensure a smooth and seamless handover,” a press release stated.

We now know the name of the executive chef who will lead the kitchen at restaurant and market Communidad Taqueria, owned by Poco Loco Chef Nick Melvin. Say hello to Chef Chavez Hernandez, formerly the executive chef at Parish before it closed in 2021.
Thai food pop-up Tipsy Thaiger is getting closer to becoming a restaurant in Roswell. The next pop-up takes place on March 16, from 12-6 p.m., at Pontoon Brewing on Dunwoody Place in Sandy Springs. The restaurant should open by the end of spring, taking over the old Public House space just off Roswell’s historic town square. Look for street food-style dishes inspired by family recipes served at lunch and dinner, along with cocktails, beer, and wine.
The Nashville location of popular Atlanta-based Mexican-Southern restaurant Taqueria del Sol, owned by Chef Eddie Hernandez, will close on March 30 after 12 years on Charlotte Avenue in Tennessee’s capital city, according to a post on Instagram.
