Totes to Tots Inc. is hosting its 23rd Annual Backpack, Suitcase & Essential Care Items Drive to support foster children in Georgia.
The event is happening on Jan. 17, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute/Georgia Cancer Specialists – Administrative Annex, located at 1835 Savoy Dr.
Donations of new, age-appropriate backpacks, rolling suitcases, duffel bags, diaper bags, and essential care items will be accepted.
From infants to teenagers, more than 10,000 foster children in Georgia often face the hardship of having to carry their belongings in garbage bags due to constant relocation. Totes to Tots wants to alleviate this issue by providing each foster child with a new tote bag and essential items.
Since its inception in 2002, the organization has collected and distributed over 83,000 essential care items to children in the foster care system.
Totes to Tots partners with the Georgia Department of Human Services (DFCS) to distribute the donated bags across all counties.
DFCS is appreciative of the organization’s efforts in supporting children who experience the trauma of being moved frequently within the foster care system.
“Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once said, ‘Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?’ This is why we take pride in celebrating his memory for our 23rd consecutive year,” said Darrell C. Dobey, president and CEO of Totes to Tots Inc.
The event was initially held on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day to honor Dr. King’s vision of philanthropy and community service. Totes to Tots continues to provide year-round services in his honor.
